The Popular Armed Forces of the Liberation of Angola (in Portuguese, “Forças Armadas Populares de Libertação de Angola” or “FAPLA”) was the army of the MPLA, Angolan nationalist movement, from 1974 to 1991. The FAPLA was constituted from the guerrilla groups of the movement, on August 1, 1974, when the 3rd Plenary Meeting of the MPLA that took place in the Eastern Front.

Over the period from 1972 into the mid-1980s, the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF), known at the “Luftforsvaret” (air defense),  issued a version of the Heuer Reference 1550 SG chronograph to it pilots and other personnel.  These chronographs were originally placed into service during the period from 1972 to 1978, with the watches being re-issued into the mid-1980s,
